| I went to East Side in the late 50s but there was another high school down neck- St James. I think Jule went there. Does anyone know if it still exists? |

| HI, I WENT TO ST.JAMES H.S., FROM 1965 UNTIL 1969 WHEN I GRADUATED, I AM PRETTY SURE THAT MY CLASS OF 69 WAS THE LAST YEAR, I THINK THE HIGH SCHOOL CLOSED DOWN THAT YEAR, THE GRAMMAR SCHOOL WAS STILL OPENED AT THAT TIME THOUGH. |

Hello Kerry and Linda and all. Linda is right - the high school is no longer. As a matter of fact all of those buildings you remember, the church, the rectory, and the old high school buildings were torn down in the 70's. What a shame. There is a new grammar school building on Jefferson Street today and I think that there might me a small chapel in that building. When I was there from 1956 to 1960, sometime around 1958 or so they were building the new hospital.
Just this past weekend I ran into two sisters of Joe McKenna who went there when I did and was one of the star basketball players - Betty and Mary McKenna. It was the first time I've seen them in over 45 years. Joe McKenna married Florence "Flo" Marcussen who also went to St. James at that time. |

Yes Linda, it was 1969 when they closed the HS. I remember because alot of the girls transferred over to SVA (which is where I went).
Wasn't there another catholic HS, I think it was called Our Lady of Mt. Carmel? Does anyone remember? |
