Dr. Robert David DeGroote General and vascular surgeon, 55 Dr. Robert David Bob DeGroote, age 55, of Saddle River died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at his home. Visiting will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. Prayers will be said Monday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeths R.C. Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff. Interment will be in Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes. Born in Hackensack, Dr. DeGroote grew up in Lyndhurst and resided in Bay Head and Saddle River. He was a graduate of St. Benedicts Prep, Newark, in 1969, a 1973 graduate of Fordham University, Bronx, N.Y., where he played football, and 1978 graduate of the University of Guadalajara. Dr. DeGroote was a general and vascular surgeon and was a partner and founder of the North Jersey Surgical Associates, Hackensack. He was a member of the New Jersey Medical Society, the Bergen County Medical Society, the New Jersey Vascular Society and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. DeGroote was a parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Bay Head. He also had his private pilot license and was working towards his instrument rating. Surviving are his wife, Deborah (nee Evans) DeGrotte; his son, Cristien Evan; his brother, Dr. Richard DeGroote and his wife, Barbara, of Brielle, and his sister, Maryanne Striano and her husband, Peter, of Wyckoff. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
