| I graduated from ECHS in 1966. Some of the best years of my life were spent there. Who could forget Br. Maus (RIP), Br. Dobbins, Br. Loftus (RIP), Br. Ferro and the infamous Br. Ward! How about teachers like John Lonergan (RIP), Tom Tobin (RIP), Tom Murray! JUG! Brothers roaming the halls during classes. Brothers roaming the staircases during dances in the ballroom! They were everywhere! |

| I graduated in "72" having attended Broadway Jr High down the block I was very fimiliar with the area. I still get into arguments about the eagles and our superiority over the likes of benedicts and the hall. They were the glory years of the school, we graduated 400 boys, such a shame we do not have reunions. |

I just stumbled across this wonderful web site and wanted to add a few memories.I would have graduated from Essex Catholic in 1965 but my family moved to Philadelphia after my dad died in June 1963.I remember Br. Loftus well and also Br.Beyer and Br.Naclerio and Mr.Ennis(English teacher,I think).Jerry Krumeich was an amazing sprinter and Hugh Mahoney was the top scorer on the basketball team.A couple of underclassmen in my year were destined for stardom also.John Suminski was a great power forward who went on to star at Seton Hall University and Greg Ryan was a great distance runner who became one of the premiere 2 milers in the country at Manhattan University before tearing an achilles tendon.I ran freshman cross country with him along with a good friend,John Hills, who beat Greg regularly in freshman year. Some other classmates I remember from those two great years are Bob Duffy,John Baldwin,Paul Brock,Paul DeLuca(a terrific football player),and my best friend,Kevin Cawley. The last time I saw all these guys together was June 1965 when I drove up from Philadelphia for a graduation party at John Hill's house followed by a trip to NYC for a midnight movie premiere of "The Hallelujah Trail".Four years later,my wife and I drove up for Kevin's college graduation after which he joined the order.Last time I spoke to him about 15 years ago,he was at Iona.

Jule,
I never thought of E-bay as a source of finding old Newark memorabilia. Thanks for the hint (although I have no use for old EC yearbooks). |

| I lost out on the 1965 year book. I was working and forgot to check the bids and lost it for only $1.50. I hate when I lose things on e-bay for those small amounts. I'll keep checking to see it any more come up for sale. |

For those of you who may not receive the CFC magazine, Brother Jensen, who taught at ECHS in the mid-60s and on, celebrated his 50th year as a Brother.
Also, I am sorry to report that Brothers Sheehan and Eustice have passed away. |

Hello Eagles,
I went to Essex Catholic for 1 year before we moved out of the city in the summer of '68. But I had a lot of great memories there. I ran track and we would run in Branch Brook Park and remember a visit that Marty Liquori paid to us..while he was on break from Villanova...we were in awe to say the least...he ran faster backwards than we could run forward...other memories included "JUG"...I think I lived in that Ballroom....having my ears pulled...ducking erasers for nodding off in class..Brothers Byram and Vasquez (who was an ex Golden Glove Boxer)..Walking up all those stairs several times a day...that?s why Essex had so many good athletes. they had enormous calf muscles from the Stairs after 4 Yrs !!....I remember faking a sprained ankle to get an elevator pass...which lasted one day until Brother Byram knew I was faking and chased me down the hall...2 weeks of Morning JUG in his Office !! ..ughhhh..I lived in Vailsburg so I had to take 2 buses every morning to get the school...the 54 and the 13 cross-town if I remember correctly....well at least I didn't walk barefoot to school like all of our parents used to claim..in just 1 year there however I learned a lot and cherish the experience. |

I'd went to Essex Catholic in 1969 (freshman) for one year. My cousin Phil graduated in 1970 or 71. (not sure) I would like to hear from anyone who were in the freshman class in 69.
